jaws

The pitch changes rapidly throughout the scene; there are lots of high notes used by violins and challis, this is all to scared and panic the viewers and gets them thinking what’s next or what’s going to happen.

The sound used for the diver (the sound of his breathing) I believe has been made using sound effects and Foley, the sound of movements in the water made using sound effects, but the bubbles are made using Foley. The sound of the cage moving has been created with Foley and when the shark knocks the cadge.

The use of dissonance is where the shark appears from nowhere, and then bumps into the cadge.

The sound track (dadadada) makes your heart race this is the score and its purpose is to set the mood for the viewers. The score is played over the visual clip. The score links on to so much more; because of the short high to low pitch sound track this sets a pace. Also gives us a little bit of information about the character, It shows us he is panicking, Worried, Nervous and scared but it also shows a bit of relief when the sound track fades away as it shows the shark swimming away. But is it too good to be true, we don't stop worrying at this point, as we are unsure of what will happen next.

The Instrumentation, meaning the instruments used, double bass, challis, violins and the silence, used to build up tension using higher and lower pitches.

Within this short sound clip (dadada) all the music is non- diegetic, this makes a build up for the viewers, and sets a mood for the viewers to think about what’s going to happen, this will get the viewers existed and keep them hooked in wondering also thinking what will happen next.

The well-known theme tune for jaws ‘DADADA’ is used for us the viewers to get to know and give us a feel of the character (jaws) this is called leitmotif; The whole point of this is to let us get to know a feeling of jaws as he’s a shark and he can not talk, where as the other characters (humans) can talk and that’s how they introduce there characters. When the man is in the cadge under water he can not talk and tell us how scared he is or how he is feeling, but again leitmotif is used, also you can get a feel of the character and how he is feeling by watching his body language.
