recording plan with photos for shaun of the dead

making he sound of smashing glass

seeing the smash happen

smashing glass again

this was us making a swoosh sound for items being thrown at the zombies

using a box full of rattly items helped us make a rubbishing sound

using a coat hanger made a lovely swoosh sound

we used broken plates and dropped them upon the remains to get a smashing effect

These few pictures show the equipment we used to make our Foley to go with the clip Shaun of the dead. i worked with two others so that we could have one person recording, one person doing the Foley and one person taking pictures, we took this in turn and swapped roles so that we took part in every activity.

we used many simple items such as tubs, tins, tape recorders, a wooden stick, a rug, broken plates, coat hangers and more. all these items all the items that we used gave us amazing effects, i would have never thought of using simple ideas, items you can find at home.

when recording you need to keep an eye on the monitor on the voice recorder, making sure that all recording levels stay the same and are working throughout the project that your doing. you must put a sign up or give some indication to others that are around to let them know you are recording as background noise will effect your recordings and may ruin you work you also need to choose a quiet environment example it would not be a great idea to go record next to a main road or near road works or in a canteen hall. to get clearer recordings you should position your microphone to where the sound is going to be example if your going to get a sound recording of footsteps you will need the microphone down low near the floor.

when recording we use a 'zoom microphone'  because they give out good quality sound and this is great and will make you work the best it can be.
